COURIER ARCHIVES GO DIGITAL

This Saturday, July 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Urbana Free Library will launch and demonstrate the first phase of digitization of the Urbana Daily Courier. The archives cover the years 1916 to 1925.

The Courier was published from 1897 to March 1979. After it's closing, the Courier building remained empty until July 7, 1980, when Allen Strong began remodeling the desolated building. Care was taken to preserve as many of the original characteristics of the building as possible. On November 10, 1980, the building again came to live as The Courier Cafe.

The Courier Achives will provide rich documentation and history of every aspect of social and cultural life in East Central Illinois. We hope you check them out!
